Buttermilk Biscuits
2 c flour
2 T sugar
1 T baking powder
1 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
Stir together in a medium bowl. Then, using a pastry blender, cut in
1 cube (1/2 c) butter, chilled
When the mixture is course crumb consistency, add
1 c buttermilk
Knead lightly on floured board until dough isn't so sticky. Roll out to 1/2" or 3/4" thick and cut into biscuits. (We like to do fun shapes, as pictured.) Kneading with too much flour or over-handling will result in tough biscuits, so be careful! Bake 12-15 minutes until just lightly golden, at 450 degrees.
